The struggle for India's independence and Indian National movement was based on one purpose of freeing India from a colonial and exploitative rule of the British. The nationalism which emerged from this discourse was essentially anti-Imperial and anti-colonial in nature. This version of nationalism became the ethos of India for generations to come.
But unfortunately in the recent times, due to the adhesive influence of the dominant intellectual discourse ( essentially left liberal, colonialist and Marxist), the idea of Indian nationalism has been distorted dented and tainted systematically. This is happening so rampantly because Indian nationalism has been linked with the aggressive nationalism of Europe which had left behind the legacies of world wars. Some sections of intelligentsia even equate Indian nationalism with fascism. One must understand these two versions of nationalism are entirely different because their essence, nature and the very purpose is different. If we look back into history, India is the only civilisation which has not invaded any other civilisation, perhaps our values, principles and spiritual processes have been inspired and influenced by countries across the world since time immemorial.
This background of our rich and composite heritage is often undermined by several eminent thinkers of the present times. Henceforth Indian nationalism is a non-aggressive one, but contains a sense of pride that reflects the diverse cultural and philosophical ethos and epoch( Indian national monument). It looks like we have forgotten the fiery Indian national army sphere-headed by Subhas Chanda Bose, who had shattered the hopes of the British Raj, to contain India. It appears that we have forgotten the numerous Satyagrahas and non-violent movements of Gandhiji, in mass mobilisation of people for freedom struggle. It looks like the memories of the brave martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Azad and audiogram Bose amongst others, have faded away. It also appears that peasants and oppressed classes movements are forgotten. Most People read history in their high schools to score some marks and forget it, thereafter. It's high time to revive Indian nationalism and make this sink into every Indian. It's essential because this is the best way to combat the 'breaking India' forces both internally and externally. Political parties are fighting their own battles, national media has become highly compromised. Most think tanks and research institutes have become nothing less than cocktail clubs. Due to this, the national interests of the country are being portrayed inadequately and improperly in the international forums. Amidst growing radicalisation across the world and aggravating tensions between the adversities across the Indian territory, there is an increasing demand to strengthen our national security. The first step towards this is to ignite the idea of India in the right sense. This can be successfully done by inducing Indian nationalism. The 'nation first' ideology must me prefixed among every citizen, before and above all the ideologies. To safeguard and protect the supremacy of the country must be everyone's duty. It's high time to revive the spirit of Indian nationalism unconditionally. To conclude, all ideas that promote the national interests must be accepted and, the ideas that are smeared with perversive vested interests must be smartly recognised and rejected. This process will eventually assure in, Indian nationalism.
